How to Fill In Your Eyebrows

OH…MY…GOD!!! I CANNOT STAND BAD EYEBROWS!! In recent years, the filling in of eyebrows has become a very popular thing to do thanks to YouTube Beauty Gurus and Instagram makeup artists. The purpose of doing this is to make thin brows look thicker and change the shape of badly groomed brows. But unfortunately, some people simply cannot or will not learn the correct way to do it. To start off, I’m going to give you some do’s and don’ts and general rules of filling in your eyebrows and then show pictures of what I’m talking about.

Eyebrow Do’s and Don’ts

  • Start off with a clean brow. Whether or not you get them waxed, threaded, razored, or whatever; make sure they are groomed. This will make the filling in process go much smoother. However, please do not over pluck your eyebrows, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. That is how you set yourself up for failure.

  • Follow the shape of your natural eyebrow. Until you know how to change your shape and make it look natural, don’t change it. Eyebrows are individual to you and are beautiful if done correctly.

  • Use a brow pencil, brow gel, or brow powder that is the color of your brow hair…not a sharpie. The general rule for this is that if you have light hair (blonde) you can go at least two shades darker when selecting your eyebrow pencil color. If you have dark hair (brown) you can go at least two shades lighter when selecting your eyebrow pencil color. I can’t stress this enough. If you have black eyebrow hair, DO NOT USE A BLACK PENCIL OR POWDER. It will look too harsh and unnatural. Use a very dark brown product.

  • Use a concealer one to two shades lighter to clean up under your brow and a concealer or foundation that matches your skin tone exactly to clean the top of the brows if necessary. No “halo brows” please! The purpose of the concealer is to clean up and perfect any mistakes that were made while filling the brow in.

  • Start from the center of the brow when filling it in. Brows naturally have a slight fade in the beginning and very little to no product should be placed in the beginning of the brow to make it look more natural. No “block brows” please! Your brows will look angry and too harsh.

  • Your eyebrows should start where the side of your nose begins, the arch should be somewhere in the center or the end of the iris, and the tail should extend no longer than the end of your eye. Please do not extend your tail all the way across your forehead. No one can pull off that look.
