Eye Shapes and Eyeshadow Placement

Everyone has a unique eye shape and there are certain ways that you can wear eyeshadow to help bring out or slightly change the shape of your eyes. If you want a more natural look for every day, it’s important to figure out your eye shape so that you can best enhance it. However, if you want to change the shape, there are ways to do that too without looking too crazy. There are six main eye shapes:

  • Monolid

  • This eye shape is typically seen in Asians. Monolids are flat on the surface and don't have much of a crease, if any. The brow bone is less defined. A crease is an indentation at the top of your eyes.

  • Upturned

  • The upturned eye takes the form of a classic almond shape, with a natural lift at the outer corner. The lower lid has more emphasis and looks longer than the top lid.

  • Downturned

  • If the outer corners of your eyes look as if they are pointing down, you have this eye shape. Downturned eyes have a slight dropping on the outer corners.

  • Hooded

  • Hooded eyes feature an extra layer of skin that droops over the crease, causing the lid to appear smaller.

  • Round

  • If you look into a mirror and can see the white part of your eye surrounding your iris, you have round eyes.

  • Almond

  • If you can’t see all of the white part around your iris, you have almond eyes.

Now that you know some of the different eye shapes that are out there, here are two videos that will help you figure out your specific eye shape and some ways to wear eyeshadow to help emphasize your shape. Of course there are more shapes, but these are the most common ones.
